Google Wave turns pubic hair straight.
November 11th 2009, 17:00 CET by Penguinx

Well. I'm in. When do I start sprouting chest hair like a minotaur? Is my unicorn in the mail?

Maybe I need more Wavees in order to grok it. Post names to wave usernames here, I guess.

So far, Google Wave Google sucks.

Also, they probably won't expire. They're not bound to your email, though, so you can trade them for sexual favors.

I sent myself a Wave invite* but it hasn't shown up yet. Anyone else want one? I have 5 or 6 left I think...

*the original invite I got was sent to an old Gmail account that I never use.

I still haven't received the one to my gmail account for whatever reason... odd.

So new topics, cool. We should have more. I don't know why new topics means more posts, but I like it. Let's cut the threshold for topics getting out of the bin in half.

And thanks Gabe!

I've only been saying for some number of years now we need to have more topics and more people pushing them through...

I've used google wave for the first time today. Me and my project group needed to compose an email to a product owner, and we decided to try out google wave.

In short, we spent around fifteen minutes writing nonsense and adding stupid nicknames to each other's names, and around five minutes writing proper information that we later sent in. It was fun though and easier than it would have been if everyone had been sitting in a group telling one person what to write. When the charm of novelty wears off, wave will surely save us some time.

It's actually a part of a course in school. We have a lot of "real-world" courses, so we can experience having a real client and do projects that will actually be used by companies or organizations after we've done them. Right now our group is doing two programs for a product owner that is involved in FIVES, a EU project against child pornography.

One of the projects is basically to go through xml files containing statistics about people's hard drives and extrapolate the information about the size of the files people save on their hard drives. The point of this to find out how people use their computers - if someone saves illegal material, deletes it, and then uses the computer like we would expect in "normal usage" (the illegal material is eventually overwritten) how much clusterslack would we expect to find?

The second one is to analyze filenames by cutting filenames into smaller substrings and doing some calculation and analyzation on this. The point of this is to find files that are similarly named to find statistics on what substrings are used often to name certain types of files. Every community has its own vocabulary, and hopefully this program will find patterns we might have looked past when it comes to illegal material.

The first project is for FIVES' future work so that they can make some of their future products more efficient, and the second one is meant for police departments - for example has the German police shown interest in the product.

Earlier, I've just done products to help money-making companies earn more money, so doing something that will hopefully "change the world for the better" feels very rewarding. On top of it all - being a C-programmer at heart - I thought the project would be a lot of work and pain, but some in the project group had worked in Python before and said we should be doing this in Python. So after programming Python for two weeks now, I'm completely sold. It's been so much fun!

Had a job interview earlier today.

Pros: really good pay, walking distance from my house, the job itself looks interesting enough

Cons: very, very male-oriented atmosphere. Down to dudes with pin-up wallpapers on their desktops. Just makes me think it would be pretty awkard to work there. But the pay is so good...

i would say that the pros outweigh the cons here, but that is mostly because i have never had a job in which i related to any of my coworkers.

so, have they offered you the job?  will you take it?

Man, that looks a lot nicer than my neighbourhood.

our neighborhood is nice, but we live on a pretty busy, curvy street.  there is also a Komwag facility a few minutes down the road, and in the summer it smells when you walk by on your way to the tram stop.  then there is what i call "peepee bridge," which is also on the way to the tram, where i always see men relieving themselves (apparently public urination is widely tolerated here).

i liked your street.  i love bicycles and have always wanted to live somewhere that i could bike to work, for groceries, etc.  i couldn't bike around here because i don't have much experience riding a bike on heavy traffic streets, and the drivers here are totally crazy.  i would get myself killed for sure.

Sunnuva… it's annoying how the (UK) iTunes Store not only carries a pretty limited amount of shows but those that are purchasable tend to be in SD. Grrr. So where does the cool kids get torrents from these days?

I did the endless setlist in Lego RB yesterday, so I'm just going to grind out 100 more stars for the achievement and maybe do the "play all gigs" one if I'm close, and then I'm done with the game.  So, I jumped through all the hoops (and they were legion) to "export" the songs for regular RB (export as in download, but have the disc in the drive).

So now I'm down to less than half a gig free, and thinking I probably need to get a bigger hard drive. No way am I spending $160 on a 120GB hard drive.  Is eBay my best bet?   Anyone done this (especially anyone in Canada)?  I noticed that most of them are from Hong Kong.  Are they legit, and if so how long does shipping take?

Also, don't forget to check the mini-achievements (can't remember how they call it). Go to quest log and switch to the next tab (L and Space on PC).

I really hate the UI mess on the PC version.  I'm level 15 and couldn't figure that out.  Also, screens that have to be closed with ESC or Enter instead of the mouse really suck my butt.
