Yeah. That was a bit of a conversation killer, I guess.

Seriously though, it's bugging the shit out of me. I haven't had a contract in 6 months and the last remnants of my self-esteem are crumbling away, but it's iTunes that will make me put a gun in my mouth. How can Apple get so many things so right and let this shit go untouched for so long? Why are my devices in a dropdown instead of just displayed in the menu bar? I've only got two!

Fucking iTunes.

Wah, why don't you try Winamp, granddad?

That's rough w. the contracting. It's the uncertainty I can't take, hope something catches your eye soon. What area were you in again?

Itunes has always been a collection of terrible.  I like to think every time I click No to its self updater that I'm hurting it in some tiny way.

Winamp was the fucking bomb back when people described things as the bomb. Shame they never had any sort of business model.

I'm in the "getting useful information out of databases" field, which many, many companies are bad at. Without realising. It used to be called "business intelligence", but people don't seem to like it when you imply they don't have any of that.

Current thinking seems to be that Big Data will magically solve all problems, including the one where most of your data is shit because your front line staff can enter whatever they want into the system because there's no validation because AAAAAGH

iTunes lets me double-click one of the two playlists I care about and songs come out the speakers. And all my music is playable from any device. It's great! Except Apple Music, I'm too old for subscription music I just want my songs dammit.

Ugh, databases... The projects I've worked on have totally bungled up logic and storage, tying code and db together so neither can move freely. Hope you can find something soon!

Winamp hasn't been good since 2.97... which was eons ago. All the "cool kids" (read: sensible people) use fb2k now.

Itunes, I have no idea what it's like nowadays. I've used it for a couple of months back when I got an ipod nano (1st gen), and then promptly switched over to some far more usable hacked app that could do USB MSC, and never looked back. Fuck proprietary shit, and fuck it right up the ass.

Saw "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping" and really enjoyed it.  But at the end of the film, while doing a rap of random stuff, they did a verse about a picture of a fetus, then drew a Santa hat on it.  No fair, we did it first.

Bah, looks like I'm going to have to withdraw my fake support for Trump because apparently there's people genuinely supporting him for watch-the-world-burn reasons.

On the upside, if he does become president I think he'll be a pretty ineffectual one, so the damage should hopefully be (mostly) contained.

Jesus fuck... our "minister heading the prime minister's office" (a stupid title if I ever saw one) and the chief spokesman for the government both opined that if there was a referendum about an EU exit for Hungary, they would vote for it. Both stressed that it's a personal standpoint and not an official one.. but that's just hogwash. They wouldn't be saying something like that if there wasn't a higher echelon decision to sow the seeds for one such occurrance.

Just goes to show how stupid our leaders are. They can already see how well it turned out for Cameron in terms of political capital, they know that something like 25% percent of our GDP comes from the automotive industry (btw, how fucked up is that?), which will plummet like a bag of dicks after we even hint at leaving the EU... and still they play it like this.

I hope against all hopes that this is just a populist message to their voting base... because if they are serious about it, this country will be as fucked as it was during the Soviet era. Probably even more so - without the cohesion funds, isolated by taxes, and considering the already unsteady (might as well say hostile, in some cases ) environment for foreign investment... yeah, we would be sooo fucked.

On a brighter note, I haven't seen the world burn around me before - not really. This just might be the ticket.

My current theory is that once populations reach a certain density it triggers an in-built urge towards aggressive behavior, resulting in population decrease and restoration of equilibrium.

Either that or we're just getting really fucking stupid.

How's it with fear of immigrants in Hungary? Rampant, moderate? Seems to be the driving force across the west (or world) these days.

Terror plays a role in that, but economic crisis must be part of it too. And maybe like Dum says there's an existential component with the world shrinking and some people want "out" regardless of it making sense. Strange times.

Moderate, I guess. The current regime tries to talk it up every chance it gets, diverting attention away from corruption - which IS fucking rampant, systematic, and does more harm to the country than any mass off immigrants could possibly do. Since we're not even a particularly attractive target destination - migration goes through us, not to us - , most people don't really care. It flares up after a terrorist attack (abroad, of course - we're not even worthy of being blown up), and I guess it's more prevalent in the southern border regions... but nah, I'd say it's been fairly quiet these last couple of months.

Which is how it fucking should be. Considering that the city with the second biggest hungarian population in the world is... wait for it...  LONDON, it would be pretty damn rich from us to complain about immigrants stealing our jobs.

Wait, didn't that moderate fear get the Hungarian government to build a razor-wire fence along its southern borders last year? Then I don't want to know what rampant xenophobia looks like.

I was pretty disappointed by V4 countries (CZ, SK, HU, PL) in general, as they seemed to be among the most vocal haters, and yet all of them generated hundreds of thousands of immigrants during WW2 and the follow-up era of communism. Polish diaspora alone accounts for 20 million people worldwide, while actual population of Poland is under 40M.

I agree with Dum's second conclusion. Western lifestyle isn't conductive to intellectual honesty - maybe more so for post-communistic countries, where a lot of people made the gradual rise from poverty to modern poverty, and even for people and families who just barely cover their monthly expenses, they still have hundred times more entertainment options than before. So a lot of people still have a growing sense of dissatisfaction, they drown it in TV and 9gag and League of Legends, and the moment manipulative right-wing politicians find an easy target, a common enemy to blame (points 1, 2, 3, 6, 7) - and from there it's easy to escalate it with more and more ridiculous propaganda.

This guy got it right -

I sometimes fear that people might think that fascism arrives in fancy dress worn by grotesques and monsters as played out in endless re-runs of the Nazis. Fascism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you…It doesn’t walk in saying, “Our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution.”

In conclusion, fascism in 21st century is on the rise, and I encourage everyone to score their governments so we can join hands and sign in unity: Confucamus!

Oh that's an interesting angle: By relentlessly demonising Nazis we've externalised their evil to such an extent that their values can creep right back in without anyone identifying it as such.

I'm not committing to this exactly being The Truth™ but it's an interesting angle I'll ponder some more on.

Ideally the free values of the west stands as proud beacons that resists the pull of fascistic FUD, but... we ain't doing so hot. How about we just blame the British? It's probably their fault anyway.

I'm not sure you've even read my post. Erecting that fence was a farce (even from an engineering perspective, btw.), and is not indicative of how concerned the populace at large is about the issue. Most of the time, even our racists are still too busy hating on the gypsies to give much of a damn about immigrant terrorists blowing up our women's jobs.

Sadly, yes... but it's an even bigger joke. IANAL, but article 8, paragraph 3 of the Constitution clearly states that no referendum can be held about an international treaty - such as the Dublin Regulation, to which we are signatories. Barring a change to the Constitution*, it not only has no binding power, but has all the legitimacy of a "briefs or boxers?" poll.

It's a stunt. (*At least I fucking well hope so...)

As I said - the votes don't matter. They will not be legit or binding, and were never meant to be. The instigators will play martyrs and freedom-fighters to the folks dumb enough to fall for it, lot of boasting and all that - but they all know that even if the votes do go in their pretended favour, they will yield to the economical (kleptocratical...) evidencies.

IIRC at last count our proposed share of immigrants would be south of the 2000 mark. Even if that's per year, in 10 years that would be... what, around 0.2% of the population? Bitch, please. Even malicious fearmongers can crunch the numbers. The underlings anxious to take over certainly can, and Orban is too deluded to flee his holy land for some country with no extradition.

Does anyone else find it disturbing that hate crimes have increased(in the UK) on the order of five-fold since the Brexit vote? I have to wonder if people aren't getting fed up with being told what to say, or what/how to think, that they are just lashing out in all sorts of weird areas. But this begs the question for those in the UK: In the underlying scheme of things driving the Brexit vote, is economic growth more important than national sovereignty? I think the same kind of thing is occurring in the US as well with Trump's message and effect. Worldwide, I think that right-wing politics has lost its friggin mind. Then again, the left's position is untenable as well. It's as if both sides live under the concept that 'if everyone knows that everyone is lying, then the truth need not be discussed'.

"Everybody needs his memories. They keep the wolf of insignificance from the door."
